To Team Trump: Team Jesus Will Never Bow to President Trump (or Clinton)

Date:

America is coming down to the wire of electing its next President. This presidential election season has been one of the most contentious and controversial in American history. With the first presidential debate now days away, PBS Frontline will air its documentary, The Choice 2016, a highly anticipated dual biography of Trump and Clinton from veteran filmmaker Michael Kirk.

In its coverage of Donald Trump, the documentary alludes to the motivation behind Trump’s candidacy for President of the United States – his humiliation and mockery by President Obama at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April 2011.

Is it Payback Time?

Surrogates on Team Trump agree – that night of public shame and embarrassment fueled revenge. And, the response?  When someone hits you, hit them harder.

Michael D’Antonio, author of The Truth About Trump, tells FRONTLINE, “Donald dreads humiliation and he dreads shame, and this is why he often attempts to humiliate and shame other people… This is a burning, personal need that he has to redeem himself from being humiliated by the first black president.”

Comments from Trump’s Director of African-American Outreach, Minister Omarosa Manigault, strike a chord:

“Every critic, every detractor, will have to bow down to President Trump… It’s everyone who’s ever doubted Donald, whoever disagreed, whoever challenged him — it is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe.”

Reserve Your Bow for Jesus

Team, we understand how, for many, this presidential election represents a choice for the “lesser of 2 evils”. Many citizens are still on the fence for both Trump and Clinton.

We still encourage you to watch (stay informed), pray (seek God’s guidance with your vote), and vote (exercise your right and privilege) – for the greater good in this election versus the lesser evil.

But, regardless of the election outcome, we must stand boldly and unapologetically for Jesus Christ, even when our leaders do not.

From Obama to Clinton or Trump, we must take on the position of Daniel – we will not bow, agree, or approve of principles or laws that stand in opposition to God and the Bible.  With due respect and honor to the office, we will speak truth to power in love – just as the prophet Nathan did when he confronted King David about his sinful actions.

So, what’s the play call?

Reserve your submission to God, and only for God.

We’ve written about this before; unfortunately, persecution of the church and Christian values will get worse before it gets better. So, now is not the time to “go soft” or skate the line on what you believe.

As followers of Christ, stay on “HOT” for God – there is no room for the lukewarm, and never let your love for God grow cold.

They Changed Their Minds about Slavery and Left a Bible Record

Two businessmen’s unusual conversion in 1700s South Carolina led them to liberate the people they put in bondage. At first glance, William Turpin and his business partner, Thomas Wadsworth, appeared to be like most other prestigious and powerful white men in late 18th-century South Carolina. They were successful Charleston merchants, had business interests across the state, got involved in state politics, and enslaved numerous human beings. Nothing about them seemed out of the ordinary. But, quietly, these two men changed their minds about slavery. They became committed abolitionists and worked to free dozens of enslaved people across South Carolina. When most wealthy, white Carolinians were increasingly committed to slavery and defending it as a Christian institution, Turpin and Wadsworth were compelled by their convictions to break the shackles they had placed on dozens of men and women. In an era when the Bible was edited so that enslaved people wouldn’t get the idea that God cared about their freedom, Turpin left a secret record of emancipation in a copy of the Scriptures, which is now in the South Carolina State Museum. Perhaps it’s not surprising that this story of faith and freedom is mostly unknown. The two men were, after all, working not to attract attention. Neither had deep roots in Charleston or close familial ties to its storied white “planter” dynasties. Turpin’s family was originally from Rhode Island, and Wadsworth was a native of Massachusetts who moved to South Carolina only shortly after the American Revolution. Both had public careers and served in the South Carolina Legislature, but their political profiles were not particularly high. Neither of them appeared to give any of their legislative colleagues the sense that they were developing strong, countercultural opinions on one of the most ...Continue reading...
