EXCLUSIVE: King Edward Long – “Work in Your Darkroom”

Teammate Spotlight: Edward “King Edward” Long, Jr.

Perhaps you’ve seen him in cameo appearances on Season 1 of Preachers of Atlanta. As a student or parent, perhaps you were impacted by his years of service as a Youth Pastor.  Or maybe you’re just an Atlanta Falcon “Dirty Bird” fan, who loved to “bow it in, bow it out” back in the day.

Team Jesus Magazine was honored to spend some time with teammate Edward “King Edward” Long, Jr., son of Bishop Eddie L. Long, senior pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, to chat about life, ministry, and his passion to not only serve Team Jesus, but to recruit new teammates to the Team!

Patience in Process

As Long shares, we are all under development. We don’t yet appear like God’s photographic vision of us. But as God patiently processes us in His secret place, the plans for our purpose and our greatness will be fully developed.

“I work in the darkroom”, says Long. “My darkroom is prayer, faith with works…making sure it’s right and it’s polished.”

For all those Dreamers on Team Jesus, or those who honor the support of others through thick and thin, King Edward’s newest singles are out now, “Dreams” and “Still Here”.  Staying true to his flavor of Christian rap called “TRAPspiration”, be sure to check out his early summer hit release, “Light”.

Team, support King Edward in prayer as God’s plans for his life unfold, and connect with him on all social media outlets @KiNGEDwardLong.

When Harriet Tubman Prays for $20

harriet tubman $20 bill

Today, the U.S. Treasury Department announces that abolitionist Harriet Tubman will in fact be the new face of the $20 bill. She boots former slave owner, Andrew Jackson, who has appeared on the bill since 1928.

In an effort to address gender imbalance in U.S. currency, Treasury Secretary, Jacob J. Lew, garnered months of public interest and opinion, including Women on $20s who lead the charge to put a women’s face on the $20 bill by the year 2020. A 10-week poll by the organization revealed America wanted Harriet, and the rest is (not-so-soon) history.

Harriet Tubman’s Confidence in the Voice of God

This announcement strikes us as not only historic and ground-breaking, but ironic in many ways. Not only will the picture of a former slave replace that of a slave owner on American currency, but have you read the story of Harriet Tubman praying for $20 to bring her parents out of bondage?

Harriet Tubman, a hero of freedom for slaves and women, was a co-worker with God throughout her courageous life. In the 1860’s, upon hearing of the suffering of the “old people” down south, she was guided by God to a gentleman’s office, who was a “friend of the slaves”, to ask for money for the rescue trip:

“How do you do, Harriet? What do you want?” was the first greeting.
“I want some money, sir.”
“You do! How much do you want?”
“I want twenty dollars, sir!”
“Twenty dollars! Who told you to come here for twenty dollars!”
“De Lord tole me, sir.”
“He did; well I guess the Lord’s mistaken this time.”
“No, sir; de Lord’s nebber mistaken! Anyhow I’m gwine to sit here till I get it.”
(Excerpt from “Harriet, The Moses of Her People”, by Sarah H. Bradford)

Harriet spent the entire day in that office waiting, sleeping, believing for the financial resources to free her parents. No doubt word of her identity and her self-less service spread among the strangers in and out of the office.

After vowing not to eat, drink, or leave the gentleman’s office until she got her $20, Harriet Tubman awakened to the promise fulfilled – strangers had contributed $60 dollars to her mission!

The Blessing of Abundantly Answered Prayer

Sometimes our prayer requests seem astronomical, a “big deal” to us. Even when we have the faith to believe, our human mindset cannot even fathom how God will provide.

Harriett Tubman was well aware – that’s the beauty of the God we serve. He’s an even bigger deal, and countless times more astronomical than our most dire need or challenge!

God answers prayers abundantly; God can do anything—far more than you could ever imagine, guess, or request in your wildest dreams! (Ephesians 3:20)

Can you imagine Harriet Tubman remembering her struggle for $20, only to look down at a $20 bill and see her own face?

Team, what prayer are you waiting on God to answer abundantly? Don’t be afraid to ask. Believe in faithful prayer. Be about God’s plans for you. God has your face on a blessing you’ve never imagined in your wildest dreams, too!

Azusa Now: The Call for Outpour at the 110th Anniversary of Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles

azusa street

Followers of Jesus Christ will join together for Azusa Now at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on April 9, 2016, to proclaim the message of kingdom unity, prayer, and the breaking down of racial barriers.  The call is simple: “Come, Holy Spirit!” – just as the church experienced during the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at the Azusa Street Revival in 1906, led by William J. Seymour.

Registrations are well on their way to a 100,000+ capacity audience, with the Azusa Now team readied with plans for the overflow. The last time the Los Angeles Coliseum was filled to over capacity was the Billy Graham Crusade on September 8, 1963 with a record attendance of 134,254.

Denominational and racial boundaries have been broken across Catholic and Protestant churches, as well as African-American, Asian, Hispanic, and Caucasian populations who are all coming together for this event.

Azusa Now will be seen by millions around the world as it will be broadcast live in its entirety by GOD TV, with additional live and rebroadcast coverage provided by TBN, Juce TV and Daystar.

Azusa Now will be live streamed via the Internet at AzusaNow2016.com in five languages: English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese and Portuguese.

Continue prayers for souls won for Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Team Jesus.

The Stand Campaign: Standing Tall on Your Knees

the stand campaign atlanta

If you come looking for numbers, you’ve missed the point.

If you come expecting stage smoke and pyrotechnics, you’ve missed the point.

But if you come to the Stand Campaign looking to lift up the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, Jesus the Christ – you’re in the right place at the right time.

The war cry of the Stand Campaign | America Prays rumbled through Atlanta at the Georgia Dome on April 2nd. Presented by the Condrey Evangelistic Association’s own Cory (Coco Brother) and Joann Rosario Condrey, the national prayer rally encourages prayer for the nation and unity in the body of Christ.  Slated to reach all 50 U.S. states in 2016, the prayer rally is intentionally described as “The campaign that promotes Jesus Christ” in an effort to refocus America on Jesus.

Let the Prayers of the Righteous Avail

bishop otoo paula whiteThe modest, minimalistic stage and backdrop kept the focal point on an old rugged cross podium; the American flag hung flat and high above God’s people ready to humble themselves and pray.

Bishops and pastors from near and far, including Bishop Kibby Otoo, Pastor Paula White, Dr. Bernice King, Dr. Joseph Ripley, Pastor William Murphy III, Bishop Paul S. Morton, Pastor Wess Morgan, Pastor Kimberly Jones Pothier, Pastor Jamal Bryant, Dr. Craig Oliver, Pastor Andre Landers, Bishop Dale C. Bronner, Pastor Ron Carpenter, and Pastor Marc Pritchett, all took shifts unleashing the sword of the Word of God to lead thousands in continuous prayer over the 4-hour event. Praise and worship leaders, including a Stand Mass Choir comprised of local volunteer singers, lifted the name of Jesus in song and praise.

the stand campaign clint brown bishop mortonThe prayer rally transcended images of America’s racial divide, and offered a rare glimpse of kingdom citizens united as one. Imagine Bishop Kibby and Pastor Paula White in tag-team prayer warfare, or Clint Brown and Bishop Paul S. Morton on the mic together exhorting the room in worship. No race or gender. No title bigger than another’s. No egos stroked – just Jesus.

The Offer of Salvation and Baptism

“Life is not simple, but salvation is.” Pastor Ron Carpenter, shepherd of Redemption Greenville in South Carolina, opened the invitation to receive Jesus Christ with these 7 words, after a moving call for those who would pray in kneeling or prostrate fashion by Pastor Jamal Bryant. The prayer of salvation for those surrounding the stage didn’t take hours – simply the confession that Jesus is Lord, belief that God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9) – sins were forgiven and the ultimate purpose of the Stand Campaign fulfilled.

Two above ground pools provided whosoever will the opportunity to be baptized on the spot in confession of dying to their old self and their new life in Christ.

Kneel to Win

the stand campaign atlantaThe burden for souls is not an easy burden to bear. The burden for America to turn back to Jesus is not an easy burden to bear. But as teammates on Team Jesus, we have a play call that says, “Bear one another’s burden.” (Galations 6:2)

So, take a stand on your knees, Team! The burden to win souls for Jesus Christ is a TEAM burden; when one teammate scores, the whole Team wins! [Tweet that!]

Let’s all continue to pray with and for the Condrey Evangelistic Association, and other teammates at the front of the battlefield for our Lord.

Are You Living by God’s Promises or Your Fears?

Lisa Bevere challenges us that Proverbs 18 declares that both death and life are in the power of the tongue. “So what are you speaking over your children—God’s promises, or your fears? Let’s not position them for normal, because normal has not served the church well. Rather, let’s position them for signs and wonders and miracles by speaking their God-given identity and destiny over them. They are sons and daughters of the most high God. Our words can either cause them to shrink back and live small lives, or frame a world large enough for them to be heroes in. Which will you choose?”

The Birth and Rise of the Steeple Awards

steeple awards pastors

For we are laborers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. 1 Corinthians 3:9

Newsflash: Working for Jesus ain’t easy.

There are always these little distractions, like loving your enemies, serving ungrateful or unappreciative people, and the all too familiar job requirement of self-denial – “Not my will, but Your will, Lord.”

And while every co-worker and teammate on “Team Jesus” has a job to do, there are those chosen leaders and generals in our Household of Faith who do the heavy lifting; they’re responsible for building up the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12) by proclaiming the Gospel in speech or song, at an expense many of us cannot comprehend, let alone pay.

It is for these co-laborers of the Gospel that the Steeple Awards has been created.

On March 19th, 2016, Atlanta, Georgia and all of America will celebrate the inaugural Steeple Awards, Gospel’s newest award show honoring Pastors and Psalmists for their ministerial contributions to the Kingdom of God. Whether the honoree is a Pastor of a megachurch, or small congregation…a signed, mainstream artist, or an independent artist –  “We are honoring those who are honoring Christ”, says C. Chandon Carter, the award show’s Founder and Carter Unlimited CEO.

All roads lead to Siloam Church International at 3695 Roosevelt Highway, where “the biggest day in gospel music” will be launched, and men and women of God will come from all over the country to celebrate each other.
